National Organic Program (www.ams.usda.gov/NOP/Consumers/Consumerhome.html): The U.S. government program that creates and implements standards for organic agricultural products. The NOP is also responsible for accrediting the certifying agencies that ensure organic production and handling companies follow USDA rules.
